I am about 2/3 of the way through my prayer shawl, having made a lot of progress getting up early to knit.

Since I am not really a knitter, I have a couple observations:

1. There is something miraculous about the yarn expanding into something more than one long strand. It just grows out of your needles and expands before your eyes.

2. Mistakes become part of the work, almost like it was planned all along. Unlike sewing, where a mistake can harm the functionality of what you make, a wrong stitch here truly is a blemish, and there is something beautiful about imperfection.

I know that if you are knitting a garment, a blemish is much worse than a visual scar; these are just observations from a beginner, making a shawl.
